ICC Confirms Neutral Venues for India-Pakistan Matches Amid Ongoing Political Tensions

The tournament will be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 5, 2025. However, India’s matches will now be played at a neutral venue, which the ICC is expected to announce in early 2025.

The ICC’s decision comes after escalating tensions between the two cricketing powerhouses, which have often impacted their bilateral cricket ties. India and Pakistan have not played a full bilateral series since 2007, with their meetings now limited to ICC events or Asia Cups, often held at neutral grounds.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf expressed disappointment over India’s refusal to travel, but he acknowledged the compromise as necessary for the smooth organization of global cricket events. “While we believe Pakistan is a safe and hospitable destination, we respect the ICC’s decision and hope for a time when sports can transcend political differences,” Ashraf said in a press release.

On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintained its stance that security concerns were paramount. “Our priority is the safety of players and staff. While we regret not playing in Pakistan, we look forward to competitive cricket at the neutral venues,” said a BCCI spokesperson.

The ICC is now tasked with selecting neutral venues that satisfy both cricket boards while ensuring fan engagement. The UAE, Oman, and Sri Lanka are among the potential locations being discussed for hosting the matches.

This development marks another chapter in the long-standing rivalry between India and Pakistan, which has often spilled into the cricket field. Despite the tensions, matches between the two nations remain some of the most-watched and highly anticipated fixtures in world cricket.
